I, too, was miserable with “bundling” and costs that fluctuated
like the Stock market until I decided to leave the OgreCast monopoly
behind. “Where there’s a will, there’s a way.”
Here is what I discovered and implemented step by step.
1.
Changed internet
providers.
2.
Acquired a ROKU
box. (Target)
3.
Purchased an
indoor antennae (Video Only)
4.
Subscribed to
Netflix Streaming & Hulu Plus (online)
5.
Bought an Ooma
(Best Buy)
Initial costs:
ROKU- cheapest version:
$50.
Antennae- $30.
Ooma- $130.-150. (Got
mine on sale for $130 a year ago, there may
Be better deals now)
Monthly Costs:
Internet $36. Unbundled
Ooma $4.95 taxes (basic)
Netflix+ Hulu Plus under
$20.
I do admit, I hired help
to hook everything up because that is not my forte.
My computer guy made it work for$25. per hour
and as I recall, it did not take a full two hours.
Being a rebel and finding
a more frugal solution paid off in other ways, too. I have been enjoying
The luxury of viewing an
entire series in my own time. I enjoy the
set up in the beginning and the developing character arc at my own pace. Makes
so much more sense than it did when I discovered a show mid-season. In the past
year I’ve watched the entire Gilmore Girls series and the Medium series and now
I am watching Lost. I am much more satisfied with my viewing and not worried
about missing a segment.
I got the antennae
because I feel a need for the news. I watch the big Three (ABC, CBS, NBC) and
OPB and ION and the CW, sometimes, too. This is all the information and entertainment
I can fit into my life
I have never regretted
the switch. Chances are you don’t watch 10% of what you pay for if you’re bundling and believing that it saves
you money$$$. Ha! Do not be hypnotized by the Ogre! RTP
